Test of the new Citroën C5 Aircross: a feeling of absolute comfort, like driving on a cloud!
In a world where "comfort" is often associated with the promise of a good mattress rather than a vehicle, a new challenger is entering the scene: the Citroën C5 Aircross. Yes, this SUV, which could have the slogan "unapologetically chic," arrives like a comic book hero, ready to revolutionize your daily commutes.
The steering wheel is easy to handle... For jokes
The steering wheel? A marvel of ergonomics! It seems like it was designed for a group of old ladies who love knitting, as it is so light. Place your little finger on one of the spokes and, voila, the U-turn is made before your coffee has had time to cool down. But seriously, who leaves that much room for humor here, in the realm of mobility? The lightness is so extreme that one wonders if the manufacturer forgot to add some good old ball bearings.
On the other hand, when you take off on a bumpy road, the real hero shines through: the damping. Everything is absorbed with the grace of a heron on the water, except perhaps the low-speed impacts that give the impression of a tough guy being crushed. But these little details shouldn't really cause waves, as the C5 Aircross gobbles up the kilometers like a little guy being pampered at every turn.
Performance: or how to take a little nap at the wheel
One must be realistic: the C5 Aircross will not attract thrill-seekers. With a 0 to 100 km/h that drags its feet, barely under 9 seconds, this SUV won't make you cry if you have a weakness for adrenaline. Compared to competitors that boast unwavering sportiness, you just dream of settling into a leather armchair and taking a little nap. If that’s not enough to convince you, perhaps it’s time to look into autonomous driving. Yes, you read that right: the MAX model even allows for a lane change without you having to lift a finger. What a time to be in a car, right?
Fast charging: the big joke
Speaking of luxury, let's talk about its ability to recharge. With a 97 kWh battery ready to take you far, the 680 km range promises to be enchanting. But, because every good tale has its twist, the fast charging acts like Aesop's tortoise. 160 kW charging power? Forget it. At best, you'll get calm moments at 50 or 105 kW, leaving the driver bewildered and disillusioned. Honestly, we're squinting in confusion: modernity or illusion? In response, at home, you will still have the option to charge at 11 kW. But plan on a good night's sleep, otherwise the C5 charger will adorn itself with a new outfit: "hungry for joules."
Handling: the urban liner
Despite its size – 4.65 meters long, to be precise – the C5 Aircross knows how to weave through the city with cheerful ease. You could almost think you’re aboard a miniature concept car. But beware, the long, narrow hood can make the ballet of the maneuver appear a bit disorganized. Between the sponginess of the brake pedal and rear visibility worthy of a tunnel, you can only smile. Yes, you wonder if you did not accidentally book a roller coaster ride in the middle of Paris. Compensate for this with the help of the paddles behind the wheel that will assist you in navigating this urban jungle.
A cushion-like interior
Inside, the question is not whether it is comfortable, but how comfortable it is. With plush rear seats that make you feel like you’re on a feather bed, you think the creators of the Citroën C5 Aircross must have purchased couch supplies at the same time as the car. The trunk, with its 651 liters, promises enough space for extended weekends or for the family you don’t want to see. And although the vents haven't found their way to individual adjustment, at least the ambiance is there to maintain tranquility.
Design: originality above all
Designed to mainly grab attention, the C5 Aircross unabashedly claims its heritage as a French manufacturer with a look that stands out. With C-shaped headlights and a silhouette that is both unique and familiar, this SUV doesn't go unnoticed. What is regrettable is that the color palette is a bit dull compared to the originality of the lines. It seems the marketing department declared that a gray shade was "in fashion"... Lacking pep, my friends! But with these customization options, it’s easy to soften the blow.
All this to say that the C5 Aircross, while somewhat fragile in terms of finish, has managed to make its mark in the world of SUVs. Who knows? It could very well be a genuine bargain, especially since it is made in France at Rennes-La Janais.
