EZI EM05: the new electric micro-cabriolet that challenges the Citroën AMI
With the EZI EM05, the revolt of micro convertibles is well underway. Imagine a world where you can jealously watch your neighbor, stuck behind the wheel of their Citroën AMI, while you are at the helm of a model that looks like it came straight out of a low-budget science fiction movie. Unveiled at the EICMA 2025 show, this little electric marvel has the audacity to want to compete with the king of mini-vehicles. But can it really hold its own?
EZI EM05: the new pressure cooker of electromobility
First, let’s talk about the dimensions. With a length of nearly 2.8 meters and a wheelbase of just 1,665 mm, this contraption slips through traffic as easily as a dragonfly about to die of thirst. Strictly a two-seater, this micro convertible dreams of attracting today’s youth, those who worship social networks and modern technologies.
But the EZI EM05 is not just about aesthetics. No, it also aims to be technological. A digital instrumentation screen? Check. A touch tablet to control the features? Check. And that's not all! The designers had the brilliant idea to introduce a gesture interface, a ring to wear on your finger to interact with the car, as if you were transforming into a wizard of the road. We are far from the old micromachines that were just rusty tin cans.
- Futuristic design with two-tone body
- Connected technology with digital display
- Revolutionary gesture interface
In search of performance
If we look at the performance, the situation becomes a bit more... delicate. Indeed, the EZI EM05 falls into the category of light quadricycles, limited to 45 km/h. The speed at which your grandmother could drive on a country road, if you are lucky enough to have one who isn’t already behind the wheel of an old Renault Twizy. Unfortunately, there is still no information on the battery capacity or range, but let's hope it doesn’t end up like another ridiculous model, lost and doomed in the middle of nowhere.
- Speed limit: 45 km/h
- No info on actual performance
- A competitive flair, but how far will it be pushed?
The arrival of a new wave of micro-vehicles
Times are changing, and brands are trying to nibble their share of the pie in the electric world. The EM05 aims for a worthy successor to the greats - yes, we are talking about those "giants" capable of making Peugeot e-Legend, Smart EQ fortwo, and other automotive chimera variations blush. But will there be a place for this micro convertible in the already crowded urban car jungle?
The launch is scheduled for 2026, while the specifications and pricing will be revealed later. But who knows, maybe by then, the EM05 will have gained in range and performance? Better that than waiting indefinitely in a garage, like an electric Fiat 500 that will never have had the chance to live.
- Coming soon: a convertible version and a coupe
- Awaiting technical details in 2026
- Can it really compete with the Citroën AMI?
Challenging the Citroën AMI is no easy task, but the EZI EM05 presents itself with the enthusiasm of a young kid and a hint of audacity. We'll see if that will be enough to conquer a market already bubbling over.
