Volkswagen T-Roc eTSI Hybrid 150 hp: What is this high-performance SUV really worth beyond its high price?

The world of automobiles has evidently succumbed to a strange financial logic where prices loop in front of our bewildered eyes. Take the new Volkswagen T-Roc eTSI Hybrid 150 hp. This SUV, which seems to come straight out of the dreams of a teenager mad about hybrid technology and thrills, is nonetheless burdened with a price that sends shivers down one's spine. With a sticker price exceeding €41,000, this vehicle immediately raises questions. Is it simply a mirage in a desert of affordable cars, or does it hide a true gem?

At the end of the year 2025, the T-Roc aims to be an example of hybrid technology, with its 1.5 turbo petrol engine producing 150 hp. An engine that, at first glance, will appeal to performance enthusiasts. Clearly, Volkswagen has decided to spice up the recipe by adding 48V micro-hybridization. But, intriguing as a psychological thriller, the promise of savings evaporates in the face of a penalty of €400. The heart of this high-performance SUV beats strongly, but at what cost!

To put things into perspective, comparison is the mother of virtue. Our friend Renault, with its Symbioz, packs 10 additional horsepower for a start price of €34,300. At this price, it clearly poses a question: why spend more for a vehicle with a more austere appearance? The T-Roc, despite its enlarged dimensions (4.37 m long, 1.83 m wide), sometimes appears to be an inflated version of a model already too expensive for what it is.

In scrutinizing the interior, one notes a touch of modernity, with well-integrated screens, but the mix of hard plastics gives a cramped feeling. In short, the driving comfort is there, but one must admit: the perceived quality hasn't soared to great heights. The engine, for its part, offers enticing performance, flirting with a 0 to 100 km/h in 8.9 seconds. Which is commendable, even if the sensation of sportiness remains to be relativized — not enough to feel like a driver at the Nürburgring.

A surprise even invites itself at the wheel: shifting gears manually, thanks to the paddles, becomes a small pleasure. But here, a bitter realization looms: hybrid rivals, like the Nissan Qashqai, outperform the T-Roc in the realm of economy, with consumption hovering around 4.5 l/100 km. The Volkswagen, on the other hand, struggles around 6 liters in the city — a consumption curve that raises questions about ecological commitment, especially with its hybrid technology.

In the end, the Volkswagen T-Roc eTSI Hybrid presents undeniable arguments in terms of engine performance and driving comfort. However, overshadowed by a high price, the question arises: does this high-performing SUV truly deserve such an investment when other, equally appealing models boast more sensible prices? That remains to be seen, but it is clear that VW must defend itself with better offerings to justify this outrageous price. A real puzzle for buyers! Perhaps the next generation will do better, but that's another story...

I’m that guy they call when everyone else has already said, “It can’t be done.”Obsessed with engines, the smell of grease, and coffee that's way too strong, I spend my days grumbling about modern times while tinkering with stuff that goes faster than it probably should.I’ve got an opinion on everything — especially when nobody asks — and I never do things halfway: it’s either brilliant or a complete disaster. But hey, at least it’s never boring.I believe progress is great… as long as it doesn’t replace elbow grease, common sense, and a good old 12mm wrench. My style? Straightforward, raw, sometimes absurd, often funny (well, I think I’m funny). If you’re looking for someone discreet, politically correct, and ready to tell you what you want to hear… you’ve clearly knocked on the wrong workbench. But if what you want is real ideas, raw passion, and straight talk that smells like gasoline — welcome aboard.
