Volkswagen is testing its V2G and V2H technologies with 200 customers in Sweden before their official launch
The new automotive charging technologies seem to cause more noise than a rock star at the end of their career who decides to put away their guitar, but this time, it's Volkswagen serving us this half-full glass.
Volkswagen, Sweden, and the Magic of Bidirectional Charging
While everyone is already talking about V2G and V2H, Volkswagen thought why not take a small group of 200 customers in Sweden to test their electric toys. Why Sweden, you might ask? Perhaps because they make self-assemble furniture there, and they think that #souldetendre on electromobility is pretty cool.
A Client Experience That Is Quite Audacious
These clients, who could be more accurately described as modern guinea pigs, are testing bidirectional charging live. In other words, a Volkswagen vehicle would not just be a means to get to the supermarket, but also the electric equivalent of the good old beer fridge in the garage. They are asking the wonderful question: what if your car becomes your power station?
To date, vehicles equipped with a 77 kWh battery connect to Ambibox chargers, the cream of the crop of charging stations, or at least that's what Volkswagen wanted us to believe.
A Titan Project with Underlying Complexities
Behind this beautiful facade of innovation, we must not forget that all this is an oversized undertaking. Analyzing driving behaviors and domestic electricity usage, all while juggling local regulations, is a bit like trying to catch fish in the sand — in short, not a small task!
And even if many electromobilists are amazed at the idea of being able to return electricity to the grid, this is where things get tricky. According to the head of Ambibox, the technical challenge is as shiny as a dirty windshield — we would be talking about software optimization and integration... A bit like promising the end of traffic jams in a city during rush hour, that says it all!
The Promise of an Official Launch
The good news? An official commercialization of these innovative functions is scheduled for this autumn. Volkswagen does not plan to skimp on resources to entice customers. For more excitement, why not an ideal ID.4 which, I admit, makes every electromobility enthusiast dream.
Volkswagen and the Future of Sustainable Mobility
While all this little world around V2G and V2H technologies seems promising, we must keep our feet on the ground. If these innovations are admirable, we must remember that a project like this could eventually redefine our relationship with energy. Let's just hope it doesn't end up like a melodramatic soap opera, if you know what I mean.
In a wave of decadent optimism, who knows, maybe Volkswagen won't be the only player to embark on this adventure. Which other electrified connections can follow in their footsteps? In the meantime, dear readers, a toast to those who, in a few months, will rejoice at seeing their cars serve as energy stations, as long as it works, of course!

C'est une belle initiative de Volkswagen, mais j'espère que la technologie sera fiable.
