Discover the new Citroën C5 Aircross (2025) through the exclusive interview with Sébastien Moraux, the product manager
Once upon a time, the promise of SUVs was simple: more space, more comfort, more gadgets. But now Citroën enters the arena with the new C5 Aircross 2025, and one wonders if we are not facing yet another iteration of a flat crossover between an outdated minivan and an overly heavy SUV. Listening to Sébastien Moraux, the product manager, it appears that this model goes beyond clichés. With promised electric range that could challenge some of its rivals, we may have a version that could even make a Dacia feel sad for not offering as much.
A platform like no other
Sometimes we wonder why certain models cling to quirky, almost grotesque platforms. Why does the C5 Aircross have the privilege of sharing its platform with the Peugeot 3008? Moraux emphasizes that there simply isn't a more economical alternative. An excuse that, like a herd of sheep crossing an icy road, seems both cute and unconvincing. When we know that the goal is to offer a range of 500 to 680 km, it's hard not to be wide-eyed. Who would have thought that an SUV could be both practical and electrifying, without making too much fuss in terms of cost and complexity?
Comfort, a vast subject of amazement
And here, let's talk about comfort. Citroën presents itself as the king of good taste in seating, but will this new C5 Aircross hold up? Moraux insists on the importance of Advanced Comfort suspensions and redesigned seats. Personal appreciation or pure propaganda? Hard to say. Abandoning the three independent rear seats for a fixed bench may not please everyone, but they didn't settle for this uninspired approach. An adjustable backrest and comfort tailored to each body type may just bring a smile to those who found yesterday's Citroëns a bit dated.
Informed choices on engines
Obviously, when we say modern SUV, we mean varied engines. Moraux boasts a choice between hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and electric options, with a simplicity of choices reminiscent of the good old days when we picked between red or white wine. What is certain is that the C5 Aircross is not going to undercut on price, while remaining below that of its predecessor. Like a good wine, it promises a value for money as appealing as a fine Bordeaux.
And the rivalry with Dacia?
The debate is on: can a base model C5 Aircross really compete with what Dacia offers at the top of the range? The stats are cold, but they indicate that despite a more advanced technical approach, the price will, of course, be above €32,000. We are flirting with bravado here. At the same time, who would truly want to endanger the name of Citroën by going to sit in the Dacia circus?
The features that entice
The automotive world is an unending ballet of innovations, and the C5 Aircross demonstrates this. But again, the absence of a seven-seater version may seem like commercial suicide. Moraux defends himself by explaining that optimal space and comfort in the second row take precedence over a bulkier option. When engineering meets softness, sometimes choices must be made. Therefore, if you are keen on a spacious option, it’s better to go for a Berlingo, the old sage of Citroën, which still has some tricks up its sleeve.
An endless adventure with the new Citroën
Beyond the allure of the C5 Aircross, this vehicle heralds a redefinition of Citroën's values. By combining innovation and design, not all roads seem to lead to Rome for the brand with the chevrons, but perhaps towards a bright future. So, what should we expect from this automotive adventure? One certainty remains, the road is still long and filled with surprises. In the meantime, we can only hope that the next generation doesn't end up going around in circles like an SUV blaming itself for its own misfortune.

Le C5 Aircross semble prometteur, mais j'espère qu'il ne sera pas trop cher.
