Audi launches a 100% American SUV to compete with the Defender and the G-Class

Ah, America! This vast country where cowboys ride horses and motorists travel the roads in massive SUVs, often accompanied by gargantuan coffee cups. But here comes Audi, with its little European touch, stepping into the ring and announcing the creation of a 100% American SUV, in a bid to compete with monsters like the Defender and the legendary G-Class from Mercedes-Benz. It was about time to shake up a car market that, let's face it, doesn’t know which way to turn.

The German manufacturer, known for its distinguished sedans and subtle design differences, like a sommelier trying to sell you a “slightly” different wine, has decided to bring out the big guns. The goal? To revive sales that have plunged by nearly 8% in the American market, primarily due to tariffs that would make any tax collector envious. Audi is thus transforming an economic necessity into a bold adventure.

And how does it plan to do this? With the body-on-frame platform from Scout, a subsidiary that, like the least favorite child, is often overlooked but could, thanks to this project, shine at the top. This will allow the production of an SUV capable of breezily tackling mud, puddles, and even fording streams worthy of a safari in Africa. The 35-inch tires and a ground clearance of about a meter – yes, you read that right, a meter! – are on the agenda. So, get ready to cross rivers as if it were a walk in the park.

But that's not all. Audi does not want to fall into the trap of the rebellious niche, because who needs another off-road vehicle when giants like the Defender or the G-Class zoom along paved roads and muddy paths? No, here, it's serious business: there will not only be a fully electric model but also a ERV (Extended Range Vehicle) equipped with a combustion engine to extend the range – because apparently, no SUV owner ever wants to refuel.

And despite some internal resistance, like that old band of German workers who think we can continue to make good old made in Germany from the other side of the Atlantic, the dream machine is already in motion. Production will begin as early as 2027, with a capacity of over 200,000 vehicles per year on American soil, without the need to erect a new factory. Ingenuity, when it grips us...

So, what can we expect from this newcomer? Perhaps an SUV that will manage to combine Audi's luxurious refinement with the typical robustness of American vehicles. But one question remains: amidst flashy SUVs and other crude toys, will Audi manage to carve out a nice slice of the pie? Off-road vehicle enthusiasts seem eager to find out. Ready, set, roll: the duel between the giants begins!

I’m that guy they call when everyone else has already said, “It can’t be done.”Obsessed with engines, the smell of grease, and coffee that's way too strong, I spend my days grumbling about modern times while tinkering with stuff that goes faster than it probably should.I’ve got an opinion on everything — especially when nobody asks — and I never do things halfway: it’s either brilliant or a complete disaster. But hey, at least it’s never boring.I believe progress is great… as long as it doesn’t replace elbow grease, common sense, and a good old 12mm wrench. My style? Straightforward, raw, sometimes absurd, often funny (well, I think I’m funny). If you’re looking for someone discreet, politically correct, and ready to tell you what you want to hear… you’ve clearly knocked on the wrong workbench. But if what you want is real ideas, raw passion, and straight talk that smells like gasoline — welcome aboard.
