Supertest at 0°C: does the Audi A6 Avant e-tron withstand the hardships of winter?

Ah, winter! That time of the year when even the most sophisticated cars turn into Christmas trees, decorated with snow and icebergs. Is the Audi A6 Avant e-tron up to this challenge, or will it leave us dreaming of flames in the fireplace rather than a comfortable ride?

For those who don’t know yet, the Audi A6 Avant e-tron presents itself as the miracle solution for heavy drivers throughout the year, a brave soul armed to the teeth with the famous PPE (Premium Platform Electric) that promises mountains and wonders. But in winter, the reality is not so rosy. Will the cold resistance feats of this electric sedan collapse like a failed soufflé?

Let’s get to the heart of the matter. During our supertest at 0°C, this electric car was subjected to all imaginable weather conditions — it was freezing cold, and the A6 lay quietly in the freeze while we were freezing our butts off. What winter performance resulted? Of course, this beauty does not look out of place in the snow. Magnificent, sparkling, and ready to face the storm, but... yes, sadly, there is a "but".

At first, the machine displayed a remarkable theoretical range of 545 km in mild weather, but in the frost, the Audi started to resemble a granita on wheels, losing efficiency like a snowman in the sun. At 0°C, the range dropped and settled at 442 km. The heat pump, that little jewel of comfort, revealed its greedy side. It’s wonderful until you realize that every minute of heating equals kilometers of range lost. Result: a 25% overconsumption at the first checkpoint.

In the long term, for highway trips, it starts to smell burnt. With an average of 25.4 kWh/100 km, the A6 embarked on some economy pirouettes with a theoretical range of 375 km. Numbers supporting this, it is clear that it is not a cure-all, especially for those who imagine doing 500 km in one go. It reminds one of the story of the running rabbit that eventually falls from exhaustion. If we just rely on winter performance, perhaps it’s better to take an old SUV to traverse snowy roads.

In summary, while this car struts under the sun with a certain grace, it seems that all this flair evaporates as soon as the temperature drops. However, with its sharp silhouette and appreciable comfort, one cannot help but give it a chance. Hoping that Audi will update its technology so that this marvel does not turn into an ice cube in the coming winter months.

I’m that guy they call when everyone else has already said, “It can’t be done.”Obsessed with engines, the smell of grease, and coffee that's way too strong, I spend my days grumbling about modern times while tinkering with stuff that goes faster than it probably should.I’ve got an opinion on everything — especially when nobody asks — and I never do things halfway: it’s either brilliant or a complete disaster. But hey, at least it’s never boring.I believe progress is great… as long as it doesn’t replace elbow grease, common sense, and a good old 12mm wrench. My style? Straightforward, raw, sometimes absurd, often funny (well, I think I’m funny). If you’re looking for someone discreet, politically correct, and ready to tell you what you want to hear… you’ve clearly knocked on the wrong workbench. But if what you want is real ideas, raw passion, and straight talk that smells like gasoline — welcome aboard.
